Liang Ma received a bachelor's degree in Metallic Materials Engineering from North China Institute of Aerospace Engineering, China, in 2011 and a master's degree in Physics from Central South University, China, in 2014. He conducted his Ph.D. research on vapor phase preparation of one-dimensional nanomaterials and their mechanical properties in 2018, and received a Ph.D. degree in Physics from Central South University, China, in 2023.

Since December 2021, he has been working as a Research Associate at the Division of Microrobotics and Control Engineering at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg. His research focuses on the project “ Pressure-sensitive Biomaterials for Cardiovascular Long-term Implants” until November 2023 and on the project “Quantitative characterisation and mechanism of adhesion energy between one-dimensional nanomaterials and contacting substrates” from December 2023.
