Photocatalysis & sustainable feedstock utilization

Current research topics of the Wark group are:

1. Heterogeneous photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry

  • Systems for photocatalytic pollutant degradation, hydrogen formation and CO2 reduction
  • TiO2 films with organized porosity and tailored modification

  • Stoichiometrically optimized mixed metal oxide photocatalysts (perovskites, pyrochlores, spinels)

  • Electrochemical deposition of tailored porous oxide films

2. Perovskite-based and dye-sensitized solar cells

  • Development of morphology-optimized hybrid inorganic/organic perovskite layers for solar cells

  • Scale-up of electrochemical deposition for solar cell fabrication

3. Ion conducting materials

  • Tailor-made porous oxides and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) as proton conducting materials for fuel cell membranes
  • Nanoparticle-based composites as fuel cell catalysts

  • Porous TiO2 and SnO2 systems for Li+ ion conduction

4. Bioenergy and hydrothermal carbonization

  • Hydrothermal carbonization of different waste biomasses, tailoring of the porosity of biochars for adsorption and catalysis, treatment of HTC water phases
  • Separation of CO2 from biogas by absorption

5. Process simulation

  • Modelling of extractive separations of products from fermentation processes
  • Modelling of degradation processes of fuel cells
