The aim of the course is to offer grounding in some of the most influential theories on cultural studies. On the basis of key readings concepts such as space, race, gender, power, subjectivity, and analytical perspectives such as practices, microhistories and performances will be analysed.
The course aims to equip students with sufficient knowledge to understand and evaluate the way in which Cultural Studies theories and methods are used and hence develop analytic skills for undertaking their own research projects. Underlying this course ist he complex question about the complicity between power and knowledge, and the founding role of discourse in shaping political destinies and historical subjectivities.

Course requirements: regular attendance, active participation, portfolio

A reading list and texts will be provided with the beginning of term.
