Semester: Wintersemester 2015/2016
3.02.900 Ü The Primary ELT Classroom - Teaching English to Beginners
- Donnerstag: 18:00 - 20:00, wöchentlich
The Module PH 043 "Englisch im Anfangsunterricht" is designed to help prepare students aiming for the elementary school (1st-4th grades) to teach English. It is for students who are not majoring in English, but who expect to teach English as the classroom teacher.
This course is one of two practically-oriented courses taught in English in the module. Both of them will focus on a) the English used in an elementary classroom, and b) means and methodology of teaching a foreign language orally to younger children. The course will also deal with the bureaucratic and theoretical background of English teaching in the elementary school, and with the resulting necessary form and aims of this teaching.
In addition, the participants' English will be evaluated in the first course, and each student will be counseled, so that she or he can make any necessary improvements in this area. Please note that you do not have to be able to speak English perfectly to take part in this course! (Regular school English is enough.)
The module also includes the introduction to the theory of teaching English as a foreign language, parts one and two (ANG049_3.02.001_Principles of Language Teaching and Learning), where you will learn the more theoretical background of EFL teaching.
Finally, there will be an evaluation of your specific skills in English for teaching elementary pupils at the end of the module, so that you can show proof of these skills to a potential employer.
