Beginning Language Learners will be a short introduction to the teaching of English in the primary school in Lower Saxony, for students who do not study English. It is a required course for some students in Module bwi 051, and all other students are welcome if places are available.
We will try to move away from concepts of teaching that we were exposed to in school as pupils and replace them with concepts that promise more learning and less stress.
We will discuss and try out some of the modern methods that seem to be useful in the context of the rules and regulations set down by the state government and the concepts of early learning that they are based on.
There will be a very short introduction to the history of foreign-language teaching.
We will cover some typical pronunciation problems and how to deal with them.
We will look at some typical grammar problems and what you need to do (or not do) about them.
And we will take a look at what kinds of basic vocabulary could be useful.
