Beschreibung

For a long time, Europe held power over large parts of the world by means of colonialism. Even though we have now entered the post-colonial or even "global" era, the imperial process profoundly shaped and continues to shape literatures and cultures around the world. This interdisciplinary course will provide an introduction to postcolonial theory, which just like postcolonial literature developed from a position of resistance - from a position of "writing back". Students will be introduced to postcolonial theory by texts of key-scholars, such as Edward Saïd, Homi K. Bhabha and Gayatri Spivak, and will learn to apply postcolonial perspectives and concepts to literature and other forms of culture.
