Semester: Wintersemester 2015/2016

3.02.171 S Language Use in Society

Veranstaltungstermin

  • Mittwoch: 16:00 - 18:00, wöchentlich

Beschreibung

This seminar will give an insight to the intersection of the two linguistic branches pragmatics and sociolinguistics, in which language is seen as the performance of some kind of action and linguistic choices are investigated in relation to their sociocul-tural context. We will discuss the most important theories, methodologies and concepts (Speech Act Theory, Politeness, Communities of Practice etc.), followed by an over-view of influential empirical studies in socio-pragmatics research, e.g. in the fields of cross-cultural and interlanguage pragmatics and sociolinguistics. The students can choose between a ‘Poster mit Portfolio’ or ‘Referat mit schriftlicher Ausarbeitung’ in which they present a small-scale empirical research study as Prüfungsleistung for 6 KP.
