The Department of Computing Science at School II invites applications for a
Professorship in Databases and Information Systems (pay grade W3)
(Successor to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. H.-J. Appelrath)

The Professorship in Database Systems is part of applied computing science at the Department of Computing Science at School II. In addition to the general responsibility of representing basic and applied research in information systems, including database and web technologies, the professorship is intended to cover the topical areas of Big Data, cloud processing, and data integration and analysis at different levels of intelligent, comprehensive information processing.
We are seeking an individual with an outstanding reputation in databases and information systems and who has extensive experience in one or more of the research areas mentioned above. Candidates are required to have experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching the German and English Bachelor's and Master's degrees in computer science and business information systems. Integration into the university's research concept is desirable, for example a research focus on health systems and patient orientation.
In fundamental research and applied research the University of Oldenburg offers excellent potential for cooperation in the focus topics "ICT for Energy Efficiency" and "Safety Critical Systems" of the Department of Computing Science, as well as in the university's focal areas "Future Energy" and "Health Care Systems and Patient-Centredness". The associated OFFIS-Institute for Information Technology also offers excellent possibilities for research collaboration in its research and developments divisions "Energy", "Health", and "Transportation". The candidate should be willing to participate actively in the university's self-administration.
