Salary will be according to TV-L level E 13 (100%). The position is available for three years. The candidate has to work towards habilitation. Presumably, the position will be available starting from October or November 2017.
The research of the Human Genetics team is based in the neurosensory and medical sciences. We make use of state-of-the-art genetic technologies to characterize the molecular basis of inherited diseases. We also develop therapeutic approaches to treat genetic conditions. Newly developed therapies are optimized in patient-derived cell lines and mouse models applying viral shuttles. Recently published therapeutic approaches include either gene replacement or the manipulation of splice factors to circumvent the pathogenic processes of splice defects.
The position offers to work in an excellent local and international scientific environment as well as the possibility to access internationally competitive research facilities at the Human Genetics group at the University of Oldenburg.
Highly motivated and team oriented candidates with academic university degrees (Diploma/Master in Life Sciences and PhD in Biomedical Sciences) and an excellent publication record who will aim to qualify for an academic career are encouraged to send their application. Good spoken and written English skills and basic German skills are expected.
The ideal candidate shows experiences in molecular genetics, molecular biology, cell culture and translational research. Specifically, experiences in routine methods of molecular biology, quantitative PCR, Sanger and high throughput sequencing, analysis of proteins by Western Blot/immunofluorescence, culturing primary cell lines, and in the identification of gene mutations and analysis of biological processes relevant to ciliopathies / neuronal diseases / retinal diseases will be of advantage.
