The Organic Geochemistry group at the ICBM (Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment), Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg in Oldenburg, offers a
3-year PhD-position in Organic Geochemistry
(E13 TV-L/60%, starting 01.09.2017)
within an interdisciplinary consortium of analytical chemists, ecotoxicologists, environmental planners, and educational scientists working in the project "Microplastic contamination of the model system Weser - Wadden Sea National Park: an across-ecosystem approach" subjected to the approval of the project via the BMBF (FONA III).
Environmental pollution with microplastics is a growing global problem. Since 80 % of plastics are of terrestrial origin, the knowledge of microplastics sources and fate along the riverine to marine proliferation gradient is of gaining importance. In the project a representative stream system and adjacent catchment area will be analyzed and assessed comprehensively concerning its microplastics contamination. As part of the joint research project the Organic Geochemistry working group is responsible for sampling as well as the qualitative and quantitative analysis of different microplastic types in water, sediment and biota samples.
We are looking for a candidate holding a Master (M.Sc.) or diploma degree (academic university degree) in analytical or environmental chemistry or a related discipline.
Analytical experiences including sampling, analytical chemical procedures, chromatography and GC-MS data analysis are essential. The candidate should be open for discussion in an interdisciplinary research partner group as well as for co-operation with NGOs and stakeholders working in the field of marine pollution matters. The candidate should be proficient in German and English language. The position offers the opportunity to participate in the Oldenburg Graduate School "OLTech".
In order to increase the percentage of female staff members, female applicants are to be preferentially considered in case of equal qualification. People with disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified.
