Enumerating Cubic Function Fields

A fundamental question in number theory is enumerating number fields and function fields with discriminant up to some bound. While the situation for quadratic fields is fairly straightforward, cubic fields pose a greater challenge. After a brief introduction to zeta functions and function fields, we will describe the techniques behind enumerating cubic function fields with a given quadratic resolvent, building on the work of Cohen-Morra for cubic number fields. This is joint work with Colin Weir (Simon Fraser) and Ravi Donepudi (UIUC).
