Developing and Strengthening Industry-driven Knowledge-transfer between developing Countries - A project funded by the DAAD

Overview of Project

The main objective of the DASIK-project is to develop and conduct intensive training in current ICT-related research fields in order to generate a transfer of knowledge between the members of the participating partner institutions. The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). To meet the requirements of every single industry partner, the first phase of the planned project will involve all members in defining a concrete catalogue of practice-oriented topics related to the following specific ICT fields:

  • Business Process Management (BPM)
  • Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS)
  • Mobile Computing (MC)
  • Introduction to ERP Systems (ERP)
  • Business Intelligence (BI)

In the second phase, courses and workshops are presented to selected members of each partner institution (students from the academic as institutions well as employees from the industry partners) by experts from the academic part of the consortium (UOL and NMMU). In a teach-the-teacher concept, the participating staff members of the involved partners are able to transfer their new knowledge to their colleagues in order to ensure a beneficial output for the companies.

Benefits to Industry Partners

  • Industry partners will be able to increase the skills base of their employees and gain new knowledge in the described ICT fields at a fraction of the cost (less than 25%)
  • Will benefit from the knowledge exchange provided by the German university partners who are internationally acclaimed experts in their respective fields
  • They will also get the opportunity to strengthen the partnerships with higher education institutes in order to satisfy their future employee and market demands

Partners

The consortium consists of the following partners:

  • Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg (UOL), Germany (coordinator)
  • Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), South Africa
  • University Dar es Salaam (UDS), Tanzania
  • ECCO, Germany
  • IBM, South Africa
  • ICT Incubator, South Africa
  • IMBC, Germany
  • Microsoft, South Africa
  • Ovations Group, South Africa
  • SAP, South Africa
  • SYSPRO, South Africa
  • Volkswagen, South Africa

The topics of the courses have a high practice-orientation and are related to the local requirements of the employment market. Therefore, the details of every single course can be adjusted by the consortium during the project time in order to constantly meet the local requirements of each participating partner as well as the local employment market demands.

The course content and material will be designed and developed by the academic stakeholders but approved by all the stakeholders.
