Description

12-14 Advanced Theory Course
14-16 Colloquium

a) Advanced Theory Course: Reflecting on Knowledge Production as/in Critical Migration Studies (Martin Butler & Lydia Potts)
In this course, students will be made familiar with recent approaches to critical migration studies through a discussion of a selection of key theoretical texts. In this discussion, a particular focus will be on the discursive - 2 - and performative fabrication and dissemination of knowledge on migration and the migrant subject as well as on alternative knowledges and epistemologies (commonly labeled as ‚Southern Theory’), with the help of which phenomena and processes of migration and cultural mobility can be critically revalued from a so far marginalized perspective. Through their engagement with different concepts of and approaches to the production of knowledge, students will also be encouraged to critically reflect on their own positionality and situatedness, which informs and shapes their very individual learning agenda and research interests during their studies.

b) Research Colloquium (Lydia Potts)
The colloquium will focus on
- the research dimension of the internship
- the preparation of the MA-thesis (Proposal)
- the networking with other thematically relevant scholars/research clusters in Oldenburg
- (optional: towards a PhD – perspectives and options)
