There are currently two research centres and 13 scientific centres at the university.
Research centres are outstanding interdisciplinary scientific institutions at the University of Oldenburg, which are established in close coordination with the strategic processes of the university and thus make a special contribution to the objectives set out in the guiding principles. The research centres are set up for an unlimited period and audited externally in accordance with the claim of excellence.

Scientific centres are cross-faculty and interdisciplinary scientific institutions of the University of Oldenburg, which are established in close coordination with the university-wide strategic processes. They contribute to the tasks of the institutes or faculties in a coordinating and prioritizing manner. Scientific centres are independent organisations set up for a limited or unlimited period and evaluated externally on a regular basis.
