Neuroanatomy

The functional morphology of retinal neurons is revealed by light, confocal and electron microscopy in combination with several histological techniques. A major tool is the immunohistochemical approach to reveal the localization of neurotransmitter receptors, ion channels and cytoskeletal elements. This includes quantitative analysis of the immunoreactivity pattern as well as co-localization studies on different target molecules or with dye-filled or pre-labeled cells.

The group is equipped with several microtomes and fluorescence microscopes, a confocal microscope, a two-photon setup, a gated-STED microscope and has access to a transmission electron microscope.
