SOLUTIONS is a large EU project with 39 partners, coordinated by the UFZ in Leipzig. Our task will be modeling of pollutant transport and behavior during subsurface passage (i.e. during bank filtration or along the soil-groundwater-surface water pathway). Detailed groundwater flow and reactive transport models will be developed and calibrated for selected field sites (chosen in cooperation with partners) in order to obtain biodegradation and adsorption parameters at field scale. The calibrated models will provide biodegradation and adsorption parameters that are representative for field scale conditions. Sensitivity and uncertainty analyses will be undertaken to determine the key influences on surface water contamination.
