Dialogue University & Region

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg cooperates with various bodies of research and education and, thus, supports the dialogue between the Northwestern region of Germany and the university.

University Society Oldenburg e. V.

The University Society Oldenburg e. V. ("Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg", UGO) sees itself with its almost 1,000 members as a bridge between the university and the Northwestern region of Germany. It is supported by members who wish to enhance the interaction between researchers and the people, institutions, businesses, as well as cultural institutions of the whole region. In 2005, the "UGO Förderstiftung" was initiated. Its goal is to strenghen the financial basis of the University Society.

Ever since its foundation in 1972, the University Society makes science accessible, and its prizes and scholarships encourage talented students and doctoral candidates to follow their path fast and zealously. The UGO supports projects such as the "Kinderuniversität" (University for Children). It follows the Presidential Chair as well as the Deans in defining the future direction of the university and its position in the Northwestern network of German universities.

Smart House

The Smart House ("Schlaues Haus") offers a platform for the dialogue between research and the citizens of the city of Oldenburg. The idea of a house for research came up in 2009 when Oldenburg was a City of Sience ("Stadt der Wissenschaft"). Using innovative and sustainable technologies, the "Bürgerhaus" - one of the oldest houses in Oldenburg - was renovated. Today, a new glass construction flooded with light has been added to the conserved part of the old house. The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, together with the Jade University of Applied Sciences, is a founding member and associate of the Smart House.

The Smart House supports a broad range of events and exhibitions. The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the Jade University of Applied Sciences regularly offer academic meetings and conferences to present and exchange current results of research. In addition, some of the courses of the Graduate Academy are offered in the Smart House.
