The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg has been recognized as a family-friendly university since 2004 and became a member of the ‘Family at University’ best practice club in 2014. The University is committed to developing working and study conditions which are suitable for families. Family is understood as a social concept describing long-term responsibility for other people. Members of the family include children, parents, married partners, life partners, siblings, grandparents and people in need of care irrespective of family relationship.
In the summer and autumn holidays in Lower Saxony, the family-friendly university project at the University of Oldenburg offers childcare for children of students and employees in co-operation with Familienservice Weser-Ems e.V. Childcare can be provided for a maximum of 30 children between 3 and 12 years old. Children will be looked after by qualified childcare professionals from Familienservice Weser-Ems e.V.
Since 2015 holiday childcare includes children with special needs. This offer, provided by the University’s Institute for Special Education, is restricted to a maximum of three children, depending on their special needs.
Baby changing rooms/further services: The university has spaces for baby changing and for children to play at several locations on campus. The parent-child room (M 0-052) at the Mensa on Uhlhornsweg has a large room and outdoor play area for parents to care for their children themselves while on campus.
