Deutschlandstipendium

Vice President's greeting

Dear Friends and Sponsors,
Dear students of the University of Oldenburg,

It is with the utmost conviction and great pleasure that Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg has been participating in the Deutschlandstipendium program for more than ten years. Together with private educational donors, we support more than 60 high-achieving and committed students of our university every year: scholarship holders receive 300€ per month for one year.

How does it work?

A special feature of the Deutschlandstipendium is its unique method of funding: Half of the funding comes from private donations and half from federal funds. Thanks to the federal subsidy, the donations we raise are available for the scholarships in double the amount. In other words, for every euro donated, two euros benefit the scholarship holders.

Can you only apply with the highest grades?

Good grades are good arguments, but they are not the only criteria: Honorary commitment improves the chances of application, and special social, family or personal circumstances are also taken into account. The subject of study, on the other hand, does not play a role - applications from students in humanities and educational science subjects are just as welcome and have just as much chance as, for example, students in STEM subjects.

The Deutschlandstipendium is not only accessible to the best of the best, but also provides valuable support to a gratifyingly diverse group of our students!

Commitment pays off!

The Deutschlandstipendium often connects far beyond its term: many of the private individuals, foundations, associations and societies that become educational benefactors at Oldenburg University remain permanently connected to "their" scholarship recipients. The personal contact is enriching for both sides: the students experience personal support instead of anonymous sponsorship. And our sponsors already get to know the talented young people of tomorrow.

The financial relief that a scholarship provides for the recipients is therefore only one half of the award: The appreciation and recognition of performance and social commitment associated with the Deutschlandstipendium is also a motivating benefit that confirms to the scholarship holders that they are on the right path.

I would like to thank all the sponsors who are already involved, and I look forward to each new sponsor and to receiving as many diverse applications as possible in the current round of applications!

Sincerely yours,

Prof. Dr. Karsten Speck
