In the context of energy consumption and carbon emissions, the mobility sector plays a serious role and is one of the most important operational areas of sustainable consumption (Deutscher Bundestag 1998, p. 9). Information systems fostering sustainable mobility are located in the transdisciplinary research field of mobility management. In the information systems dimension they are assigned to the Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS). Here they count to the “Systems of Salesintegrated Environmental Protection” (s. fig. 1).
These systems are including information systems for the consumer, e.g. in terms of mobile applications for travel planning and travel assistance as well as new and extended systems for mobility vendors by integration of sustainability issues, e.g. within the Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

„Sustainable Mobility“ is a very important research topic at the chair VLBA and within the student project group Sustainability CRM for (E-)Mobility Services with SOA“ (2010/2011) a first prototype of a multimodal travel planning system considering sustainability issues named „Jinengo“ was developed. Jinengo also included interfaces and customization of business information systems in the field of CRM and Business Intelligence.
Jinengo was the starting point for several examination works and further project groups like „Cuberunner“ (2012/2013) and „RAPID – Regional Analysis and Prediction Platform by In-memory Data“(2014/2015). These project groups took a special focus on the development of analytical information systems to support sustainable mobility. Furthermore a Phd with the title “Conception of a Sustainability Customer Relationship Management (SusCRM) for providers of sustainable mobility” was finished in this field. Several papers had been published since 2010 and within scientific conferences like „BUIS-Tage 2014 “ and „Enviroinfo 2015“ workshops with the topic were executed.
Besides the pure academic elaboration of the topic several cooperation projects have been started or are already finished. E. g. within the national funded project „Schaufenster für Elektromobilität Niedersachsen“ (2013 – 2016) within the subproject IKTS in work package „Kundenorientierte Mobilität“ with six employees. Furthermore the EFRE-funded and 2014 finished project „ReCaB – Regionales Car-Balancing“ has to be mentioned, which deals with the transformation process of automotive retailers towards a mobility provider. Important partners within the different projects are VW AG and German Aerospace Center (DLR) as well as regional players like the big VW retailer Braasch from Oldenburg.
