Systematics

The family system established by Lang in his "Monographie der Harpacticiden" still is the base for all phylogenetic and taxonomic considerations on Harpacticoida today. His taxa are classified according to similarities rather than to the principles of phylogenetic systematics introduced by Hennig (1950). As a result of this there are several artificial groups. In Lang's time his family concept has been an outstanding achievement.
However, a modern revision, done by rigorously applying the methods of phylogenetic systematics will result in some major changes.
