| The MONOCULUS Copepod Library took shape in conjunction with the MONOCULUS copepod newsletter. The first 20 issues of the newsletter were free of charge. In exchange it was expected that copepodologists donated reprints of their publications in order to help building up a reprint library open to everyone having literature problems. These donations laid the foundation for the MONOCULUS Library. Later not only reprints of recent publications but also duplicates of older ones and whole libraries have been received. The last collection of books and reprints yet to be incorporated into the MONOCULUS Library is the one of the late U. Einsle. A big jump forward was also made during the project of a computerized bibliography of copepod literature.
Today the MONOCULUS Library contains over 12.000 documents, mostly reprints (either original or copied) but also many books. Even though the library contains publications on all aspects of copepod research the coverage is best in the fields of marine benthic copepods, freshwater copepods and parasitic copepods. Literature on planktonic copepods is less well represented. In this respect it may be advisable to contact the C. B. Wilson Library at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. (USA), which is the other big copepod library in the world. In order to keep the library up to date we rely on donations and therefore urge every copepodologist to put the MONOCULUS Library on his/her mailing list. The publications donated to the MONOCULUS Library will be mentioned in the regular literature list of the MONOCULUS Copepepod newsletter. The more complete the holdings of the library, the better it can serve those who seek help in literature problems.
If you need a special article write to the library. We can copy it for you. If the article has many pages or if you want several articles at a time you have to pay for the service. Inquire in advance what the costs would be. Send reprints or inquiries to the following address:
