Beschreibung
As a result of rapid population growth and transformed global economy, the African continent is experiencing rapid urban growth. This study course will discuss challenges and conflicts related to urbanization processes from the perspectives of different stakeholders. Using data from qualitative interviews, students will learn about the interests and preferences of these stakeholder roles. Based on this knowledge, students will contribute to developing a simulation game about the planning process in Dar es Salaam and conduct the game on their own.
Learning goals:
• obtaining an overview of urbanization processes in African countries
• understanding the concept of resilience in the urban context
• learning to analyse qualitative interview data using respective software
• understanding the difficulties of urban governance and planning with multiple stakeholders
• discussing and developing possible solutions for ecological and social challenges in cities
