Educational Science - Master's Programme

Orientation and Goals

The master's programme in Pedagogy and Educational Theory, along with its specialisations in diversity-aware social work, rehabilitative education, life-long learning / education management and migration and education, offers students at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg a technical and research oriented course of studies. Graduates are equipped for careers in social work, intercultural education, and the organisation of life-long learning. This enables graduates to take up further education or scientific activities in these areas.
The goal of this programme is to give students the theoretical and research oriented educational knowledge, skills, and abilities that they need in order to be able to intervene on an educational level, arrange educational interventions processes, organise and evaluate and/or worth through educationally significant problems and issues.
One strong point of this programme lies in the enhanced and research oriented (also in the sense of practical research) engagement with heterogeneity and difference in social processes and their significance for educational activity (exemplary concerning differences relating to gender, ethno-cultural diversity, social situation and inequality, and special needs). This programme is therefore intended to give students the capacity to investigate and deal with the meaningful effects of social modernisation processes on biographical processes in their complexity and interconnectedness. Furthermore, this programme is meant to give students the skills they need to recognise the significance of such issues in relation to educational action, as well as the corresponding knowledge to mediate, reflect reasonably, and intervene.
