Division of Assistance Systems and Medical Device Technology
Since May 2013, the Group Assistance Systems and Medical Device Technology (formerly: automation and measurement technology) is a Division of the Department of Health Services Research. There is also continued close cooperation with the Computer Engineering Department of the Department of Computer Science and the Health Department of the associated institute OFFIS.
In the division, technologies of automation and measurement technology, which were originally developed for industrial applications, are transferred to new fields of application in medicine and nursing. New approaches for the assistance of the doctor or the formal or informal caregivers and patients themselves are developed using technical systems. The individual model of the patients to be treated and models of the treatment processes form the basis for a partial automation and thus increase the efficiency of the treatment.
In teaching the division still provides lectures in the engineering basics (Electrical Engineering, Control Theory) and their technical applications in computer science (Medical Technology, Robotics).
