The Excellence Initiative
In 2012, the excellence cluster "Hearing4all" was integrated into the promotion of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal government and the federal states, operated by the University of Oldenburg as lead institution in cooperation with the Hannover Medical School and Leibniz University in Hannover. This certifies the excellent, internationally competitive level of hearing research in Oldenburg. The spokesman for the excellence cluster is the internationally recognised, prize-winning Oldenburg physicist and physician Professor Birger Kollmeier. The HörTech gGmbH Center of Competence, the Jade University of Applied Sciences, the hearing centres in Hannover and Oldenburg, the Fraunhofer Project Group for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology, the Hannover Laser Centre e.V. and the Hanse Wissenschaftskolleg Delmenhorst are also part of this excellence cluster.
The Joint Research Academy in Biomedical Engineering and Science of Hearing and Sensory Systems (JRA) accompanies junior researchers throughout their entire career path from the first academic degree up to the first professorship or employment in industry. It provides support in all areas, both direct financial support, e.g. with the support of young families, as well as further education programmes and organisational assistance to promote the development of young researchers.
